Ian Gosling

Ian’s background has been a varied and colourful one. From an early age he has embraced every opportunity to take advantage of the world around him and has embarked upon as many opportunities the world has had to offer. Over 12 years Ian lived, worked and travelled throughout Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Mexico, Asia, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. With a strong passion for travel and the experiences and relationships it presents, his travels have led to him undertaking various working opportunities such as: a farm manager in Australia, irrigation installation throughout the vineyards of New Zealand, milking cows in Israel, the list goes on. These opportunities have led to a wider view of the world around him through real time experiences of cultures, religions and environments. This led to him wanting to harness a variety of life skills and experiences and use them for the direct benefit of vulnerable people.  With this desire in mind Ian has worked for the past 5 years for the local Southampton charity, Dreamwall. Over these 5 years Ian worked up to the position of Service Manager. Dreamwall is a youth charity that provides weekend residential breaks, providing opportunities for social and emotional development. Working directly with vulnerable client groups such as looked after children, young offenders, young carers, post adoption, mental health, leadership programs and family intervention projects, Ian has benefitted professionally and personally from delivering to a wide and challenging client group. Focusing primarily on delivering positive and unconventional activities that promote well-being, confidence, self-assurance and self-management, whilst managing dynamic and behavourial issues, Dreamwall’s aim has been to bring positive opportunities and experiences into the lives of vulnerable young people through positive peer and adult relationships. Since resigning this position in March 2011, Ian has worked closely with the Sunrise Team. With a strong passion for the humble and simple surroundings of the outdoors Sunrise Bushcraft allows him to continue working with a wider variety of people in an environment he feels passionately about. His skill and ease with young people makes him a popular instructor with all our younger groups as well as adults.
