Sunrise Bushcraft has a wealth of experience and knowledge and can arrange expeditions for you, assist and advise with expeditions, deliver training sessions, assess groups and individuals.  We actively encourage young people to develop the social skills necessary for adulthood and provide opportunities to become confident, successful, responsible and effective contributors to society.

 

Sunrise Bushcraft would be delighted to design a programme of training and expeditions especially for individuals, your school or group.

Practice Expeditions include a qualified instructor, expedition training, route planning, use of group equipment where necessary (tents, stoves, maps) and a 2 day or 3 day or 4 day practice expedition.

 

Qualifying Expeditions include supervision from a qualified instructor, expedition 2 Day, 3 day, 4 day assessed expedition.

 

We organise each expedition individually for you to suit your dates and availability, so that you can fit everything in with your schedule and minimise your workload.

 

We offer week long structured courses designed to meet all the requirements of the DofE. These fall into 4 categories:

 

Training –

This can be carried out at your school or at our base camp in Hampshire. We are fortunate to operate from approximately 700 acres of stunning woodland with a base camp set up with round house, tipi tent, parachute, kitchen and toilet facilities (composting!)

We are able to bring the equipment and staff to school for any training. Our training programme covers three days and will cover such topics as:

 

Fire, Water, Shelter and Cutting tools

Camp craft and camp cooking

Natural awareness

Plant and tree ID

Navigation, map work and route choice and planning

Equipment

The Country Code and relevant points of the Highway Code

First Aid

Emergency procedures

Natural and manmade shelters

How to travel light

The Training Expedition is designed to be as similar to the real thing as possible, but with some guidance and training along the way to ensure that participants are applying their training to the expedition. Participants aren't accompanied, but may be given more frequent checkpoints and helpful advice along the way. Each group needs a different level of supervision and guidance, and we will make judgements about this as well as identifying key areas requiring reinforcement or help along the way.

This expedition should be in an area similar to that of the assessed expedition, in order to give a realistic view of the conditions which may be anticipated on the assessment.

 

This is the culmination of the previous training and preparation, and we will ensure that participants are prepared. The expedition must take place in the appropriate type of terrain - in general Bronze Expeditions will be in familiar territory.

This may be in any format, and is generally delivered back at school once to trip has been 'written up' by the participants as a group.

The Bronze Expedition is a two day expedition, with one night spent camping. There should be six hours minimum of activity planned each day, with at least three of these hours journeying.

 

Price: This is based on per participant and can include: 

Three days of training at our base camp

Training expedition - two days, one night

Qualifying Expedition - two days, one night

Free use of group equipment - tents, stoves, maps, compasses, emergency shelters

Campsite fees for one night on each of the practise and qualifying expeditions
